Leadership is about causing the people and dynamics (like time, money, and energy) to go in the direction that you want them to go.
As a leader, (if you are running a business or leading others in a large company – you are a leader) it is easy to question yourself, particularly when those you are leading begin to push back.
You find yourself thinking: “Am I good leader?” “Am I being unreasonable?” And going on to cave, apologize, or in some way compromise what you know needs to be done.
Getting derailed in these situations is costly because your focus is taken off your game and suddenly, your team is in the driver’s seat of your business revenue. Yes, the revenue.
Remember, setting and holding boundaries with team, clients, vendors, etc… is a part of being a leader. This isn’t always easy or pleasant. You won’t always be voted the popular one in your company, but at the end of the day your business or the company you lead a team for is relying on you to make the decisions that are healthy for it to thrive.
OH the decision…yes, the decision making process, the psychology of decision making – that is topic for another conversation. In the meantime, here is a 14 minute webinar on powerful decision making.
